A 14-year-old Palestinian-American boy, Omar Mohammad Rabea, was fatally shot near the village of Turmus Ayya in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, according to reports. Local officials say an Israeli settler was responsible for the shooting.
Adeeb Lafi, the mayor of Turmus Ayya, stated that two other teenagers were also shot in the incident. While two of the injured teens were taken to a nearby hospital, the third, also 14 and a US citizen, was reportedly detained by the Israeli army at the scene.
Turmus Ayya, situated north of Ramallah, has a significant population of Palestinian Americans.
The State Department has been contacted for comment on the incident.
This tragedy follows a similar incident last June, in which 17-year-old Tawfic Abdel Jabbar, another US citizen, was killed near Al Mazraa Al Sharqiya during clashes involving stone-throwing Palestinians and the Israeli military.
Violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank has reportedly escalated since the October 7th attacks on southern Israel, further exacerbating the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
