Queen of Christmas: Mariah Carey's Holiday Classic Sets New Billboard Milestone

Mariah Carey has once again cemented her status as the Queen of Christmas with her beloved holiday anthem, "All I Want for Christmas Is You." On December 23, Billboard announced that the 1994 classic reached a record-breaking 17th total week atop its Hot 100 chart — surpassing the 16-week mark held by "One Sweet Day," her 1995-96 collaboration with Boyz II Men.

To celebrate, the 55-year-old singer reposted a Billboard Instagram photo featuring her in a figure-hugging red gown, surrounded by gorgeously wrapped gifts under twinkling Christmas trees. Sharing her excitement, she wrote on her Instagram Stories, "This is amazing!!!! Will never ever ever ever ever take this for granted. Merry early Christmas!!!!"

Originally featured on Carey's Merry Christmas album, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" gradually climbed the Hot 100's ranks — hitting the top 10 in 2017, top five in 2018 and ultimately reaching No. 1 in 2019. It has since enjoyed multiple stretches at the summit every holiday season, making it the third-longest-running chart-topper in the Hot 100's 66-year history. This triumphant chart feat came days after Carey wrapped her star-studded Christmas Time tour on December 17, and shortly after the single became the first holiday track to hit 2 billion Spotify streams.

"All I Want for Christmas Is You" continues to be a cornerstone of festive pop culture, with Carey expressing her gratitude to everyone who has turned the tune into a beloved holiday tradition.
